I can now send iPhone HEIC shots to clients without fighting with iCloud exports. Drag in, pick WebP, download.

Converted 200 PNGs to AVIF lossless for our design system. The ICC color profile came through perfectly — every swatch matched exactly.

We switched our image pipeline to WebP. kindatool was the only browser tool that handled our TIFFs without a quality hit. Saved us a whole backend.

The lossless mode for PNG-to-WebP is the key feature I was missing everywhere else. My sprite sheets are byte-for-byte identical after round-tripping.

Replaced three tools I was juggling for archiving. The batch queue and ZIP export were the two features I'd been missing.

No sign-up, no watermark, and actually converts HEIC properly. Every other tool I tried gave me washed-out colors from the iPhone color space.

Converted my entire stock photo library to AVIF overnight. Color fidelity held up well and the files are half the size.

HEIC to WebP in a browser, no server needed — first time I'd found that. Goes into every web performance project now.

Anatomy · 01

Choosing a format is a trade-off, not a preference.

WebP has universal browser support and beats JPEG by 25–35% in file size. AVIF is even smaller but lags in older browsers. PNG is the only lossless format that doesn't sacrifice alpha. Knowing this lets you pick the right output — not just the popular one.

  • WebP
    The web default
Lossless alpha, 96% browser support, 30% smaller than JPEG. Best general-purpose output.
  • AVIF
    The future-proof pick
15–20% smaller than WebP lossy. Worth it for images where color depth matters.
  • PNG
    The archival choice
No lossy artifacts, full alpha. Use for UI assets, sprites, screenshots, diagrams.

iPhone photos live in Display P3. Most converters ignore this.

Every iPhone since 2016 shoots in Display P3 — a color space 25% wider than sRGB. A naive HEIC→JPEG conversion strips the ICC profile and clips those extra colors, giving you washed-out greens and reds. We embed or remap the ICC profile so your converted file looks exactly like the original.

  • ICC
    Profile preserved by default
WebP and AVIF both support embedded ICC. We carry it through — your viewer shows the right colors.
  • sRGB
    Normalize if you need to
Toggle "normalize to sRGB" from the advanced panel for legacy systems that can't handle P3.
  • HDR
    AVIF + HEIF HLG/PQ
AVIF carries HDR metadata natively. Convert HEIC HDR to AVIF and keep the full tonal range.
How it works

Three steps. Everything local.

Drop any file, pick an output format, take the converted result. The entire pipeline runs in a Web Worker on your machine — nothing leaves your device.

Things people ask

Straight answers about local conversion.

Does kindatool upload my files to convert them?
No. Every conversion — images, video, audio, documents — runs entirely in your browser. No network requests are made for your file data. Nothing leaves your device.
Which file types and formats are supported?
Images (HEIC, JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF, TIFF…), Video (MP4, WebM, AVI, MOV…), Audio (MP3, WAV, FLAC, OGG…), Documents (DOCX, ODT, TXT…), PDF, Spreadsheets (XLSX, CSV, ODS…), Presentations (PPTX, ODP…), Archives (ZIP, TAR…), E-Books (EPUB, MOBI…) and Fonts. 200+ formats in total.
Will converting lose quality?
It depends on the format pair. Lossless image formats (PNG, WebP lossless, AVIF lossless) preserve every pixel. Lossy formats like JPEG or MP3 reduce quality for smaller file size. Document and spreadsheet conversions are structural and don't lose data.
My iPhone HEIC photos look washed out after conversion. Why?
iPhones shoot in Display P3, a color space 25% wider than sRGB. A converter that strips the ICC profile clips those extra colors, giving you washed-out greens and reds. kindatool preserves the ICC profile in WebP and AVIF output by default, so your viewer sees the same colors as the original.
Can I convert multiple files at once?
Yes. Drop up to 50 files at once. The batch queue runs in a Web Worker pool sized to your CPU. Files download as a single ZIP, with original filenames and new extensions. The only limit is your device's RAM.
How do I find the right output format?
On the conversion page, formats are grouped by category (Image, Video, Audio, Document…). You can also use the search box to type the format name directly — e.g. "mp4", "pdf", "webp" — and it will filter instantly.
